Waistcoat front body is made from a heavy weight, textured silk brocade, with fine indigo floral motifs. The rear as well as the interior of the waistcoat is made from a cream/offwhite glazed cotton. Rear buckle is an 1855 Hartshorn patent buckle. Buttons are machine made, fabric covered buttons, made from the body material. Garment is entierly hand sewn.

Inside the lower left pocket of the garment was a handwritten letter which reads:
This was my Father's (Pliny Fiske Dunning's) wedding vest. October 10th 1861. (Alice Dunning Haskell October 23rd 1913.)
